From The Bronx, New York, prolific songwriter and musician Earl Kayoss has written over 700 songs. Earl is an ASCAP registered songwriter and his publishing company is Vindictive Cat Ltd. Earl released his own debut album in 2009 called “Disarray.” An EP titled “Nancy’s Finger” along with his 2nd full-length album “Beyond the Reach of the Infinite Mercy of God” followed in 2014.

Life On Mars

The band “Life On Mars” was formed in 2014 from a fateful collision between two worlds, Earl meets Fernando Perdomo (Jakob Dylan/Todd Rundgren) who is both producer, engineer and artist on vocals and most instruments. Earl is the principal songwriter, producer and artist on vocals, guitar and piano. Previous Life On Mars albums have also featured Durga McBroom (Pink Floyd/Blue Pearl) on lead and backing vocals and Ruti Celli on lead vocals and cello. As the project “Life On Mars" they released their debut 10-track album “Far” to critical acclaim in May 2015. That was followed by the 15-track album "The Resurrection of Ants" in April 2017. A third album titled "Trance Formation" was released in January 2018 and featured special guest appearances from Jamie Glaser (Bryan Adams/Jean-Luc Ponty) on guitar, Dan Crawford on keyboards and Gilberto Zanelatto on violin. A fourth album titled "Observer" was released in June 2020 and featured special guest appearances from Zak Nilsson on Lead Vocals, Salvador Navarra on Piano, Synthesizer and the legendary Scarlet Rivera (Bob Dylan/Joni Mitchell) on Violin.

"A musical collective that has released great album after great album for the past several years. The theme of "observation" permeates these songs, and the combination of the lyrical sensibilities with the power of this music combines for a sonic experience that truly satisfies." - David Tolar's EARS 2 U "TOP 25 ALBUMS OF 2020" COUNTDOWN!

"Unpredictable and exciting song craft. Vivid storytelling and meticulous guitar lines. Flows with both gritty and melodic sensibilities in its complicated yet accessible climate. A rhythmic and snappy display of pop-rock spirit. A calm, maudlin moment of bare beauty. With a retro-rock spirit to a busy execution of energetic and inviting songwriting. Life On Mars never out welcomes their stay, as a dynamic and eclectic formula of rock keeps us anticipating each subsequent track." - Take Effect Review

“John Bushey Highway 61 Revisited Studio”

Duluth, MN – For the first time in its history, KUMD is naming one of its studios.

“John Bushey Highway 61 Revisited Studio” will be dedicated tomorrow, Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 4 p.m. at KUMD, room 130 of the Humanities Building, 1201 Ordean Court. Mayor Emily Larson will join Bushey and community members for the ceremony.

“It is wonderful to know that whenever a new student steps foot on UMD’s campus and should find an interest in the music of Bob Dylan, they will have a permanent sign to guide them on their journey,” says Marc Percansky, a concert promoter and friend of Bushey’s. “This new designation is a reminder of all the hard work that John Bushey has put forth over the years, and I wish him many more ahead.”

The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

An Unparalleled Dylanologist

“Highway 61 Revisited” was launched in 1990 when Bushey contributed his innate understanding off all things Bob Dylan.

Bushey a consummate fan and Dylan historian with an extensive collection of recorded concerts, outtakes, and vintage recordings of Bob Dylan. He also has the attention and respect of Dylan fans across this country and around the world.

Since the show’s inception, Bushey has volunteered thousands of hours and featured hundreds of guests who share his passion for Dylan’s music.

“By maintaining such a high-profile show honoring Bob Dylan, Bushey has drawn attention to Dylan’s connections to the Northland and helped strengthen Duluth’s commitment to celebrating its native son,” says Maija Jenson, program director of KUMD.

“John Bushey’s commitment to his show, through good times and bad times, is deserving of exceptional honors,” says Jenson. “John has had significant health issues for more than 10 years and through treatments and health concerns, John has remained a dedicated KUMD volunteer host at KUMD.”

Duluth Mayor Emily Larson, officially proclaimed, October 15, 2016 as “John Bushey/KUMD Highway 61 Revisited Day.”
